Set sail, for this exotic vacation getaway and party like the rich and famous in this tropical setting against the beautiful Caribbean sky. You will enjoy delectable meals at all the unique restaurants, night's filled with exciting clubs where you can join the locals and dance the night away to the Reggae bands. The nightlife is hot and the days offer the best in deep sea fishing, snorkeling, surfing, sight seeing, or just sunbathing on the white sparkling sands. There are so many exciting and entertaining things to do in Cancun that you will never want to take a cat nap.

When you begin to plan your vacation, or after you arrive in Cancun, you may still have a few questions about what to do, where to stay, or if there are any local events happening. The State Tourism Office was a wealth of information and will always answer all of your questions. They are open from 9am to 8pm and their telephone number is 998-881-9000. Another great place for learning a lot about what is going on in Cancun is The Convention & Visitors Bureau tourist information office. They are also open from 9am to 8pm. Their telephone numbers are 998-884-6531 and 998-884-3438. You can also call before you leave and use a toll free telephone number which is 1-800-go-cancun or you can visit their website at www.cancun.info.

There are three major consulates in Cancun. The U.S. Consular Agent is open Monday through Friday from 9am to 1pm and their telephone number is 998-883-0272. The Canadian Consulate is open Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm and their telephone number is 998-883-3360. The United Kingdom is the last consular office in Cancun. Their telephone number is 998-881-0100 ext. 65989. Any other country will need to contact their embassies in Mexico City.

When you wish to exchange your money, the best place to visit are the banks that are located in downtown Cancun. There are also exchange houses (casas de cambio) that are pretty reasonable. When it comes to money exchange you will not get a very good exchange rate from the island stores.

Probably the best way to get around Cancun is by taxi. Finding rates for taxi's is real easy. The rates are posted outside every hotel. You will find the rates are different in a variety of ways. The least amount you will pay in the hotel area is $5 per person; this rate can be different according to which hotel you are a guest of. The more expensive the hotel, the higher the taxi rates. The rates are also determined by zones. In the downtown area the going rate is around $2 per ride and other zones are around $6. If you are traveling between two zones, the rate will be $6. Your best bet may be to rent a taxi; you can usually rent one for between $12 to $20 per hour.

Buses are a great way to travel from the mainland to the beaches. They are in operation every day from 6am to 10pm. So, this is a wonderful way in which to visit the many wonderful beaches that Cancun has to offer. The rate for the public bus system is 60 cents or 6 pesos. This information should be painted on the front of the bus. Be leery if the price is not there, the bus could be a private bus and will cost you more money. If you want to spend the day visiting the beaches and partake in the many water sports and other activities then using the bus system is one of the best.

Mopeds can also be rented for $30 a day, but because of the crowded streets this may not be a very good option. If you prefer there are many places that are in walking distance from your hotel. Walking around town will give you plenty of time to enjoy the local attractions, sun and climate that Cancun has to offer.

You can also talk with a travel agent in your local neighborhood to learn what great events and attractions are happening around Cancun during the time you plan to visit. They also have several brochures that will aid in your decisions of the activities you wish to enjoy, the hotels that are available and the specials on travel.
