The Exotic Wedding of Your Dreams Awaits

Cancun Wedding Guide

By: Stacy Tuccolo
Staff Writer

Make your wedding ceremony truly unforgettable in this romantic, tropical paradise brimming with exotic beauty that is only limited by your imagination. So go ahead, imagine sharing your vows before an intimate group of friends and family with lush palm trees, silky white sand and turquoise water as the backdrop. You don't have to personally plan all the details. Just picture the wedding of your dreams and your Cancun wedding planner will make it come true.

In Cancun, the options for your wedding ceremony are virtually limitless. Perhaps you've always dreamed of a beachfront ceremony with swaying palm trees, a warm tropical breeze dancing among your wedding guests, soft, white sand and sparkling turquoise water framing an alter of fresh flowers and flowing white ribbons. Maybe you envision a poolside ceremony set among the luscious vegetation of a pristinely landscaped garden and a gazebo intricately adorned with native flowers. How about a barefoot ceremony at sunset with traditional Mexican Mariachi music accompanied by the sound of the Caribbean Sea gently caressing the shoreline? You can even walk the isle in a natural cave lighted with candles and filled with the acoustics of violin music and cascading waterfalls. Simply dream it and your wedding planner can make it happen.

Saying "I Do" in Cancun
Sets the Stage for a Lifetime in Paradise

Many Cancun resorts offer in-house wedding planners and full banquet services with packages that provide everything from the bridal bouquet to food and music. You may decide to select your resort based on these services and amenities or, if you stay at a hotel that doesn't offer these services in-house, there are many independent wedding planning businesses to help you coordinate everything you want for your perfect day.

Prior to your trip, much of the planning and communication with your wedding coordinator can be done via email and Internet. Learn as much as you can about the options that are available to you so you can rest assured that you've made the best selection for your dream wedding. If you go with an independent wedding planner, it makes good sense to gather a few offers and quotes from competing businesses and make your decision from there.

To be married in Cancun, you'll need all of the same documentation required to validate your marriage in your home country. Photo ID, official Birth Certificate with a raised seal, Passport, Tourist card (given to you by the airport and officially stamped when you enter the country), Blood tests (that must be done in Mexico) a Divorce decree (if divorced) and four witnesses of at least 18 years of age.

You may opt to have a Religious or Spiritual Union ceremony which is not a legal marriage but a celebration of a couple's commitment to one another. In this case, if you also want to be legally wed, you may choose to be married before or after your trip but hold a lovely ceremony and perhaps your wedding reception in Cancun.

Most wedding planners ask that you arrive at least two days before your wedding date to review all the necessary details and arrangements. You must also go to the Cancun City Hall (Registro Civil) two to three days prior to your wedding ceremony to present your paperwork and take an official oath before the Justice of the Peace. Not to be taken lightly, this process at City Hall will make you legally married, and the romantic wedding vows that you exchange before your friends and family a couple of days later will be ceremonial.

Let's face it; you're no ordinary couple! So why get married at your local hometown restaurant or function hall? Cancun wedding planners are eager to help you create the perfect, romantic ceremony that reflects your unique personalities and dreams. Your wedding is the first day of the rest of your life as a couple. So dream big and make spectacular memories in Cancun.
