Reserva Natural Tres Rios

Cancun Attractions Guide

Enjoy nature at its finest in Reserva Natural Tres Rios. Set foot on the trails just like the Spanish Conquistadors. Explore this unique and captivating land of rivers, jungles, estuaries, and beaches in many exciting ways.

Reserva Natural Tres Rios is an ecological park in an area of low subtropical jungle and mangrove on the Riviera Maya, between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. It is located only 35 minutes south of Cancun International airport on the Riviera Maya on the Cancun-Tulum highway.

There are several ways in which you can enjoy an entire day exploring the Reserva Natural Tres Rios. Imagine kayaking, canoeing, or jet skiing through the mangroves swamps of this tropical reserve. You may decide to walk, horseback ride, or take a bike through the jungle trails. No matter which way you go you will feel the peering eyes all around with over 100 exotic animals peering out from the brush. Snorkeling off the coast and viewing the many tropical fish and ever-changing coral reefs will have you wishing you had remembered your underwater camera. There are so many wonderful and unique things to explore all over Reserva Natural Tres Rios that your adventure will never end until you leave the park.

There are tours available to Reserva Natural Tres Rios that includes round trip transportation, entrance fees to the park, buffet style lunch, domestic open bar, horseback riding, "reef runner" snorkeling tour at the reef, lockers and towels. You can decide to take a tour or venture off on your own. Enjoy kayaking in the ocean or in the mangroves or take a bike over the jungle trails. Go horseback riding on the beach or a jet ski along the shore. This is your vacation; you decide just how adventurous you intend to be.

Stepping back in time is what this reserve is like, it is the same as it was years ago, and will be the highlight of your vacation. This is one spot on earth that is still unspoiled. The 100 different species of animals and subtropical flora make this area their home and you are invited to come and take a peek at their natural habitat and join in the adventure. If you just wish to relax, this is the place. The crystalline river waters and the enigmatic fresh water wells are so magnificent and inviting you will enjoy swimming or just daydreaming by the waters edge. The white sandy beach beckons everyone to take off their shoes and feel the cool sand between their toes, or gallop along the shoreline on your horse. There are over 150 acres for you to discover and explore in your own time and in your own way.

Reserva Natural Tres Rios is open daily from 9am to 5pm unless they have programmed social events. Group camping is available and during that time the park will remain open overnight.

You may be wondering what you need to bring with you for this unique and adventurous opportunity. Well, this is a sub-tropic jungle and you will be exploring not only the jungle but the rivers, beaches and the ocean. You should bring with you in the way of clothing, tennis shoes or even hiking boots, a pair of beach sandals, a pair of shorts, 2 T-shirts, towel, hat, repellent and sunscreen. The insect repellent and sunscreen should be biodegradable, if you do not have any you can purchase some at the boutique while in the park. If you must bring personal belongings remember you will be carrying these items with you during your adventure or you can rent a small locker. They ask that you do not bring food or beverages, radios, recorders or pets into the park. This is also a non-smoking park. This is as close to a perfect preserved park, we should help keep it this way.

For more information you can visit their website at or you can email them at From the Mayan Riviera prices start at for Adults $35.00 and children $17.00. You should make your reservation at least 2 days prior to your arrival. At this time the park is temporarily closed as major improvements are underway.
